Social Media Explained

Advantages of Social Media

Social Media MarketingThe Facebook world is not about broadcasting your message and getting the largest reach and frequency,  it’s about tapping into the conversation, listening, listening some more, then engaging, and being the authority in your field, or industry. The loudest biggest spenders do not win the prize anymore. The smartest, most astute listeners do.

I know it’s hard to contain yourself; you want everyone to read your message and respond to your request. I have to inform you, it doesn’t work that way, I know because I made the same mistake.

Communication is 50% listening and 50% talking. For the first time in our history, now, through social media, companies can listen at join in the conversation about their company and their competitors

You want to know the real secret to success on social media?

It’s Listening!

Listen carefully to what your potential customers are talking about on Facebook, Twitter and on other social media sites.

  • Be transparent, (honesty is always the best policy. Someone writes a bad review, be honest and explain what happened. Were all human by the way, even business owners, so never forget that.)
  • Be responsive, (someone responds to a post or asks a question, respond right away without delay. If you cannot or don’t know the answer, tell them you’ll get back to them with 24 hours.)
  • Be authentic, tell great stories. (As I said, we’re all human, tell stories about how your company, or organization got started. Why did you go into business in the first place, what challenges did you overcome?)

Keep this in mind when communicating online: Be the one they all flock around. The “celebrity” at a party is how you need to be with your online presence. Think about what makes people gather around one particular person at a party? It’s certainly not their loud voice or aggressive manner. It’s their mannerism and the stories they tell. Then they’ll make your organization a likable one on social networks.

By applying the same set of rules you would apply to be the person everyone wants to gather around at the party, you can become the most likable company or organization in your category and end up the most profitable one as well. Now wouldn’t that be nice?

I want you to think about this, why would you possibly make a decision about a dentist, an attorney, an auto mechanic, or any other important service for that matter, based on an advertisement you saw in the newspaper, magazine, or on Google, when you can make a sound gut decision, based on the recommendations of trusted friends?

Facebook and social media have made it considerably easier to make those sound gut decisions. It’s nothing short of a game changer for marketers and businesses of all sizes by using social media in your marketing.

Now! Building and executing a “likable” social media plan will take lots of time, and work. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a slow process to get prospects to “Know,” “Like,” and “Trust” you. But it’s well worth the time and the effort in the end. If you don’t have the time to dedicate to social media, get someone else to do it for you…It’s a must do marketing tactic and strategy.

Companies can no longer afford to ignore their customers chatter on social media sites.

Everybody loves to be heard and your prospects are already talking about what their needs and wants are to solve a problem. Are you listening?

Through social media, you have the ability to check in on prospective customers or prospects discussing problems your company solves, or listen to existing customers talk about unrelated issues just to get to know them better.

Check on your vendors, partners, or even your competitor’s social media sites, find out what they are talking about, and even join in on their conversation. Customers have never been easier to reach and target market to.

The amount of data you can gather and the number of conversations you can tap into through social media is nothing short of mine blowing!

Ask anyone who’s ever been in a successful relationship, how important it is not only to listen to your partner, but to show him or her that you are truly listening and you really do care.

Listen before you talk back. You can join the conversation as a listener. Good Luck!

Let me know how it works for you, I’d love to receive your feedback and thoughts?
