What is Your Brand Identity?
Branding logoToday, I’m going to provide you with valuable and much needed information if you’re just getting started in business, or even if you’ve been in business for a while. This post features tips that I recommend taking into consideration by every website and business owner out there. These suggestions will help increase branding awareness of your website, and even you as a business owner:

  1. Your brand (name) should be easy to remember, and easy to spell, avoiding dashes if possible and should be the same as your domain name. Now, this can be a name that you create for your business, or use your own personal name.
  2. Your slogan should say exactly what you do, or at least what field or industry you are doing business under, or have a service in. Make your slogan catchy, and something that is easy to remember. The shorter the better. The slogan should create an image of your logo in people’s minds, when they say your name.
  3. Your website should have a combined brand identity, which includes your Logo, Icon and a Favicon (most preferably the same as the icon). All these items should work together in harmony; they should be using the same colors, fonts and concept. Your Favicon is an important item which most webmasters ignore. The Favicon is used as an icon for your bookmarked links when your readers bookmark your pages; also it is viewed beside your title and URL when viewing your site.
  4. Use your @website e-mail, do not use free e-mails (Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail, etc…). I personally use my @askfay.com email account. Every time you send from a free e-mail address there is a loss in credibility, or authenticity.
  5. Include a signature in every e-mail you send out. This should include your logo, a link to your website, your email address and a phone number where people can reach you, or your support desk. Also include links to your social media pages.
  6. Twitter! Is a great social media tool that can help you in several ways. You can read what people are saying about you and your brand by using http://search.twitter.com and type in your own name, or your business name, to see what people are saying about you. You can also spread the word over Twitter (Tweets) and also keep in touch with the external world, whether customers or partners. These are the least and very basic things you can do with Twitter.
  7. Make sure you have custom made business cards that include your brand identity. Include a photo of yourself to associate you with your business at networking events. Add social media icons and links to your business card. Make sure your business card has your website, email and phone number clearly printed on it.
  8. Have a free giveaway on your site that requires and opt-in email address in order to receive the free product or whitepaper information sheet, or ebook. Use an auto responder like Aweber.com to collect email addresses and stay in contact with your opt-in prospects.
  9. Commenting on competitors’ blogs and in forums will create huge brand awareness to your targeted segment. Answer people’s questions or concerns but DON’T blast what you do. Provide informative answers with a link to your website. If people find your answer’s informative, they will check out your link.
  10. Finally! Have a well written “About” page and Bio, where it will point out and clarify what it is that you actually do, and what problem is it that you solve. A FAQ page will help a lot as well, if necessary.
